Mary G. Carson Elementary will host an Open House on Friday, Sept. 20 to commemorate 50 years of serving students in the Denver Public Schools.
The school was named after Mary G. Carson, who served in the Denver Public Schools for forty-five years as a teacher and principal. Her first teaching assignment in 1897 was in the old Webster school, now replaced by Bryant-Webster Elementary School.
Carson Elementary is a center school for students who are hearing disabled. This program has been at Carson since 1972. This unique program serves approximately 40 students from the Denver area. Although these students are in a self-contained program, they are mainstreamed throughout the day. Many families also come to Carson for hearing tests to be conducted in the sound suite by one of the four audiologists who serve not only students at Carson but throughout all Denver Public Schools.
If you are a former student, teacher, parent, or friend of Carson or you are interested in learning more about the school, please join the staff on Friday, September 20, 2002 for an Open House from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. There will be a brief presentation beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the auditorium.
After the presentation, guests are invited to tour Carson School. Mary G. Carson’s niece, Jane Armstrong, will attend the gathering. Carson will also host a Carnival on Saturday, September 21 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to continue the 50-year celebration.
Carson Elementary School is located at 5420 E. 1st Ave. The school telephone number is 303-355-7316.
