DPS Offers GED Classes

Students wishing to enroll in the GED program to obtain the GED equivalent of a high school diploma may now register for classes through Denver Public Schools. Morning, afternoon and evening classes will begin after Labor Day at eight sites.

All students must register at the Contemporary Learning Academy, 2211 W. 27th Ave. Registration is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the school year.

To be eligible, students must be 16 to 20 years old. To register, students should bring a birth certificate, valid ID or driver's license; social security number; and proof of address. Homeless students need some form of identification or reference.

The self-paced course is free, and instructors are all registered DPS substitute teachers. Classes are small, and students receive individual attention. The cost of the GED test is $10 to $18.

Sites for GED courses are Mile High Youth Corps, 1801 Federal; Montbello High School, 5000 Crown Blvd.; Abraham Lincoln High School, 2285 S. Federal; Fresh Start, 2250 E. 16th Ave.; George Washington High School, 655 S. Monaco; Denver Inner City Parish, 910 Galapagos; Urban League, 5900 E. 39th Ave.; and Urban Peak, 1630 S. Acoma.
