Colfax Elementary Students to Receive Dictionaries

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation's Dollar Dictionary Drive will celebrate its seventh year with a special program and dictionary distribution to the third grade students at Colfax Elementary School, 1526 Tennyson St., at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. Denver Public Schools Area Superintendent Joe Sandoval will be the keynote speaker. Neighborhood Association representatives will join Sandoval.

Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation, a consortium of Denver neighborhood organizations, created the Dollar Dictionary Drive in 1996 to provide a dictionary and thesaurus to every third grade student in Denver's 89 elementary schools. Since 1996, 56,000 third graders have received this resource to use in the classroom and at home. Each dollar donated purchases one book.

Donations have come from US Bank, neighborhood organizations and individuals, but the 2002 program is short of its fund-raising goal. All money donated goes toward the purchase of dictionaries and is tax-deductible. Contributions can be sent to Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Dollar Dictionary Drive, PO Box 181009, Denver, CO 80218.
