Students at Remington Elementary School, 4735 Pecos St., will present Colorado flags to send to New York to pilot Donna Miller at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at an assembly in the school cafeteria.
Miller is one of two pilots chosen to represent the state of Colorado in Flight Across America, a nationwide event to honor the memory of those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
On Sept. 8, 2002 the selected pilots will fly their aircraft, with state flag aboard, in a loose parade of planes down the Hudson River, past ground zero and the Statue of Liberty. Later that day, the flags will be presented in a ceremony aboard the USS Intrepid, moored on the west shore of Manhattan.
Miller, a furloughed American Airlines pilot, will talk to the students about aviation as well as the Flight Across America program. After the assembly, she will visit the fifth grade class of teacher Beth Kahmann, whose students are preparing homemade flags.
