Beth Celva To Be Interim Principal At East High School

Superintendent Jerry Wartgow announced today that Elizbeth (Beth) Celva has been named the Interim Principal at East High School. The position became available last month when Dr. Jerry Lee Anderson accepted another position outside of the district.

Mrs. Celva has had a distinguished career with Denver Public Schools, beginning as a teacher at East High School in 1970. For the past three years she has served as the Executive Director of the Department of Assessment and Testing.

Mrs. Celva says, "Being the principal of East High School is the dream of my lifetime. I am ecstatic at this opportunity, and I look forward to a rewarding year." A graduate of East High School, Mrs. Celva has also served as the assistant principal of East High School and as the principal of Smiley Middle School.

Dr. Wartgow and Mrs. Carla Santorno, the Northeast Area Superintendent, met with members of the East High School CDM last evening to announce the interim appointment. The group was advised that this is an interim appointment and that a national search will be conducted next spring to fill the position permanently. Mrs. Celva also met with the committee and stressed her joy at the opportunity to work with them to create an educational environment at East High School in which all students achieve to their fullest potential.

The Assessment and Testing Department has a strong management team that will continue to serve the District in an effective manner under the supervision of the Dr, Wayne Eckerling, Assistant Superintendent for Planning, Research, and Special Programs.

Beth Celva will officially begin her interim assignment on July 26.
