The Board of Education has two meetings scheduled for Thursday, June 20, including a 5 p.m. Regular Meeting and a work session that begins two hours earlier than usual at 2 p.m.
The Regular Meeting agenda includes the proposed 2002-2003 school year budget.
Proposed changes to the budget include adding $300,000 to keep the Truancy Reduction Program afloat (following cuts from the city and federal government) and $100,000 to provide elementary school teachers with $50 each to purchase classroom supplies. An additional $200,000 would be set aside for use to implement a plan to boost minority student population at the Denver School of the Arts (that plan is not yet developed) and $339,000 to upgrade technology systems.
Revenue to support the new expenses will come from funds set aside for projected salary increases. Market analysis used to set many salary categories in the district resulted in smaller pay increases than had been anticipated.
Following are the meeting times and key agenda items. (The complete agenda for the Regular Meeting will be posted on the district's web site www.denver.k12.co.us by about noon on Thursday. Look under "Board," then "Board Meetings," and then "Meeting Agendas.")
