The Holocaust Awareness Institute at the University of Denver is pleased to present a two-day teacher training seminar to provide middle and high school teachers with an in-depth understanding of the literary and multi-media items available to facilitate the study of the Holocaust.
The materials include books, videos, maps, posters, CD-ROMs, curriculum units and artifact kits included in Tolerance Trunks. Included is additional background on tolerance education, prejudice issues and its relevance to current events delivered in an effective, age-appropriate, and historically accurate context.
Tolerance Trunks are available to middle and high schools throughout the Rocky Mountain region in order to facilitate the study of the Holocaust for a three-week period.
Sessions at the seminar will provide hands-on opportunities for educators to develop appropriate classroom exercises while focusing on the Tolerance Trunks, allow participants to become familiar with a variety of both primary and secondary resources, and will include a Holocaust survivor panel presentation. Participants may obtain continuing education credit through their respective districts, and one college credit hour is being arranged.
The training will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, September 10th and 11th, 2002 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the University of Denver. The cost is $40 per person including continental breakfast, lunch and all materials.
For individuals interested in an in-depth historical background on the Holocaust, Prof. David Shneer of the Departments of Judaic Studies and History at the University of Denver will lead a three week intensive summer course, "History and Representations of the Holocaust" from July 29 through August 16 (3 weeks), Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. For information on registering for this four-credit course, call 303-871-3013.
Although the training for teachers is not until September, registrations are currently being taken as space is limited.
