DSA Senior Randy Warshaw was selected as Destination ImagiNation Global Finals Valedictorian for the graduation ceremony. Every year, a ceremony is held one evening at the Destination ImagiNation national competition for graduating seniors, complete with caps and gowns representing their respective high schools. Warshaw will address the entire Global Finals group (approximately 17,000) during the event at the University of Tennessee May 21-26.
Executive Director of Destination ImagiNation Bob Purifico chose Warshaw for valedictorian after an extensive phone interview. Warshaw is currently a member of a team competing in the "On Holiday Challenge" with the Denver West High School team. He has participated in Odyssey of the Mind and Destination ImagiNation since elementary school with the same group of friends.
"Throughout Randy's 11 years with Destination ImagiNation he has won so many awards for creativity," said Team Manager Candy Mowery. "He will tell you that he goes to these competitions not to win but to take major risks."
Destination ImagiNation is an international organization that encourages student participants to stretch their minds and think outside the box to develop creative solutions to five different challenges. Students spend months researching, writing scripts, building props, designing and making costumes, learning to think on their feet, and practicing their solutions to prepare for this competition.
Six teams will be representing Denver Public Schools in the national finals.
