Denver Public School's Career Education Center is pleased to announce the winners of recent area photography contests, judged by professionals in the fields of photography and photojournalism.
In the Student Photographers of Colorado State Contest held on April 19, 2002, Ross Williams, from East and CEC, "knocked socks off" with his work. Williams placed 1st in photojournalism, 2nd in portfolio, 3rd overall, 3rd in portrait, and 4th in black and white printing. He also won three "Best of Show" Judges Awards.
Natalie Hayes, from JFK and CEC, took 1st Place in the Photojournalism Theme.
Lena El-Senussia, from East and CEC, placed 2nd in the Photojournalist Theme Image.
Kathryn Swanson, an 8th grader in the CEC Scholars Program, took 3rd place in Product after only 6 weeks of photo study. When asked about her experience, Kathryn smiled and said, "I just applied what I learned in class and worked hard."
In the Congressional Art Show that featured Denver area student work, four CEC students placed in the show:
Shaina Oliver (South High School), Ross Williams (East High School), Francisco Arrieta (East High School), and Natalie Hayes (JFK High School).
In the Northwest Coalition Fair, Denise Manguso (North High School) won the Merit Award for her work entitled "Mother Nature."
In the Denver Public Schools Art Contest, three CEC students walked away with the top three prizes in Photo: 1st Place to Michelle Kimball, 2nd Place to Natalie Hayes, and 3rd Place to Ross Williams.
Dave Millert, Commercial Photography teacher at CEC, praised his students work, "I never fail to be amazed at the talents my students bring to my class and the awesome quality of their work."
