McKinley-Thatcher Elementary School “Goes With The Flow” As It Celebrates Three Years Of The South Platte River Environmental Education Project

Students, staff, and families of McKinley-Thatcher Elementary School will be celebrating their third year as the pilot school for the South Platte River Environmental Education (SPREE) project.

The public is invited to share in the SPREE spirit as the school “Goes With The Flow” on Tuesday, May 14th at 1:30 p.m. There will be a musical / literary / media presentation followed by a special recognition honoring Joe Shoemaker, former Colorado State Senator (1962-76) and creator of the South Platte River concept.

“Our respect and love for the river continues to grow as it runs through our school and community,” said teacher Paula Montojo.

Also, McKinley-Thatcher will be receiving an award from The Greenway Foundation for being selected as the SPREE School of the Year. River stewards will be available to accompany guests on a tour of the school’s SPREE Gallery of Creative Productions before and after the program.
