If Lincoln Elementary School moves to a Montessori Model, it will be the third elementary school to do so in the Denver Public School system. On Tuesday, April 30, interested community members and parents will have another chance to speak out and review the proposal to adopt the Montessori method. This forum will be held in the lunchroom at Lincoln Elementary (710 S. Pennsylvania St.) at 7:00 p.m.
"Interest has been expressed in having a multi-age community and Montessori partnership," said Lincoln Principal Daphne Hunter. "Currently, Lincoln is a multi-age community where younger and older children work together. This model already implements a lot of the practices that Montessori embraces. So, we believe the two programs can co-exist together."
Lincoln has already held a forum where the community showed great interest in the change to Montessori. Tuesday's forum offers one last community review before taking the proposal to the Board of Education, possibly in the next few months.
Hunter hopes to provide parents in the neighborhood and surrounding area more choices of instructional programs and ultimately increase student enrollment at Lincoln Elementary. The school will also partner with Washington Park Pre-school Montessori. It could be a feeder school to Lincoln should the Montessori proposal be accepted.
