Friends of the Denver School of the Arts, DPS Department of Community Education Will Host Fundraiser at Historic Schomp Mansion On Saturday, April 20

The arts and history come together in "Home Is Where The Art Is," a gala fundraising event to be held at Denver's historic Schomp Mansion, on Saturday April 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The event will feature tours of the 10,000-square foot mansion, which has been specially decorated by local designers for the Junior Symphony Guild's 2002 home show. Entertainment will be provided by Denver School of the Arts students and a silent auction will be held.

The benefit is a joint effort of The Friends of the Denver School of the Arts (FSDA) and the Denver Public Schools‚ (DPS) Department of Community Education. Proceeds from the benefit will support two arts education programs – Teens Nurturing Talent (TNT) and the Visiting Artists Program. TNT, created jointly by DSA and Community Education, gives DSA students the opportunity to share their talent in and passion for the arts with DPS elementary and middle school students in after-school and summer programs. The Visiting Artists Program at DSA brings guest artists into the DSA classrooms to offer master classes, workshops and performances for DSA students.

"We're extremely pleased to join forces for the first time with DPS to raise funds to get the arts back into public schools," said Vicki Aybar Sterling, chair of Friends of the Denver School of the Arts. "The Schomp Mansion is the perfect setting, not only for its grandeur but because former owner Kay Schomp was the founder of Friends of DSA and an active supporter of education."

The Friends of Denver School of the Arts (FDSA) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization of parents, Denver School of the Arts (DSA) faculty and administration, local artists and community leaders. Established in 1989 to help found DSA, the Friends‚ mission is to provide enrichment opportunities to create a climate of artistic and academic excellence for DSA students and faculty.
