The internationally acclaimed Moscow String Quartet will join the Denver School of the Arts award-winning student orchestra for the third annual "Strings Away" Benefit Concert, at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14.
The concert will be performed in the Kenneth King Academic and Performing Arts Center on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. They can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling (303) 722-4669. Event proceeds will be used to help cover DSA Orchestra touring expenses.
The Moscow String Quartet will perform Beethoven's Quartet No. 4 and Borodin's Quartet No. 2.
Founded in 1975 by four graduates of the prestigious Moscow Conservatory, the Moscow String Quartet has toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States and performs in music festivals worldwide. Since 1997, the musicians have been artists-in-residence in the College of Arts and Media at the University of Colorado at Denver.
Considered Denver Public Schools' premier orchestra, the DSA Orchestra is composed of 52 students in grades six through 12.
They will perform Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra, and Tschaikowsky's Serenade for Strings. In recent years, the DSA orchestra has toured Chicago and Montreal, where the students performed in the Basilique Notre Dame.
In March, the orchestra was the featured entertainment at the Johnny Carson Performing Arts Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.
The Denver School of the Arts Orchestra was created in 1992 to provide talented young musicians from throughout metro Denver with the opportunity for artistic growth in a challenging orchestra environment. Founded in 1991, the Denver School of the Arts is a Denver Public School magnet school.
