Academia Ana Marie Sandoval Draws National Attention

On Friday, March 22, school officials from a South Dakota reservation and the Ute Indian Academy are coming to observe the Academia Ana Maria Sandoval, a dual-language school, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Members from the South Dakota reservation are planning to open a similar school to service their community's needs.

Academia Ana Marie Sandoval opened this fall in Northwest Denver, with a cutting edge Montessori/Dual Language curriculum. It is a model site, gaining national recognition as a flagship school. Under the experienced leadership of Joann Trujillo-Hays, former principal at Boulder's Escuela Bilingue Washington, bilingual teachers are succeeding in educating children in English and Spanish, within a Montessori environment. A long waitlist indicates the demand for this program in the community.

On April 11, visitors from Washington DC will also tour and observe classrooms as they plan a Dual Language Montessori school in their area.
