Philips Elementary School Students To Use Global Positioning Satellite Technology To Survey Future Playground

Fourth- and fifth-graders at Philips Elementary School (6550 E. 21st Ave.) will witness the use of Global Satellite Technology on Thursday, March 14th from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Mortenson landscaping company will be surveying the playground area where new sod will be laid.

As a part of the process, they will be bringing out their ATV/Survey Rover. This piece of equipment uses Global Positioning Satellite technology. Students will participate in this surveying activity as part of their science curriculum. In addition, Mortenson will be sending teachers web site and equipment information for a short mini-lesson on the science behind the project and so that students may explore this technology further on the Internet.

Mortenson has partnered with Philips to donate sod, irrigation, and other landscape materials for its playfield.
