Denver Public Schools Selects Jones E-Education, Jones Knowledge Online Learning Solution

Ten Schools in Southeast Denver Tap Jones Online Learning Platform

Jones e-education®, the online course management and delivery platform of Jones Knowledge®, Inc., has been selected by the Denver Public Schools (DPS) to serve the DPS Southeast Quadrant as its Distance Learning Project partner, affording both students and teachers the anywhere, anytime convenience of online learning.

The Southeast Quadrant serves 7,500 students, employs 750 teachers, and is comprised of George Washington High School, Thomas Jefferson High School, South High School, Hill Middle School, Hamilton Middle School, Grant Middle School, Place Middle School, Merrill Middle School, Gove Middle School, and Morey Middle School.

After an extensive search and review of the various delivery platforms available for the K-12 education market, DPS announced its selection of the Jones Knowledge e-education learning solution during an open house held for teachers to preview a state-of-the-art science center at George Washington High School, 655 S. Monaco Pkwy, on February 1, 2002.

"We selected Jones Knowledge because it provides a full-service solution. They house the hardware, manage the software, and handle all our technical support," said Alan McQueen, program manager of the DPS Southeast Coalition Distance Learning Project. "They provide outstanding customer service, highly interactive and advanced communications tools, and have a solid reputation in the K-12 online learning market."

The first phase of the Jones Knowledge project launches five online, professional development courses for teachers, including 1) Internet and Email Utilization in the Classroom, 2) Using and Troubleshooting Video Conferencing Equipment, 3) Teaching Science with Distance Learning, 4) Using Technology for Standards-based Curriculum, and 5) Collaborative Learning in the Technological Age. These innovative courses will encompass how to effectively and efficiently infuse technology in the classroom. The second phase will offer online courses to District secondary school students.

In addition to the Jones e-education online learning platform, the DPS Southeast Quadrant schools will have access to Jones e-global library®, the first virtual library designed specifically for online learners. e-global library provides students and teachers with a comprehensive suite of online tools that provides direction to reliable, timely Internet resources.

The online collaboration of Denver Public Schools and Jones Knowledge is part of a larger project for the district to fully integrate the use of technology in the learning experience. "As a family of companies with its roots in Colorado," said Heather O'Mara, president of Jones Knowledge, "it is particularly rewarding to be working with Denver Public Schools to make online education a reality for the teachers and students in our community."
