In the mid-1980's, thousands of innocent
children, mostly boys, fled their war torn homes in the middle of
a brutal civil war in the Sudan. Orphaned, these children endured
unimaginable hardships as they traveled to refugee camps in surrounding
countries. While many died from starvation along their journey,
others survived and some survived to tell their story.
In partnership with Whose Magazine, at least four of these Lost
Boys will visit Morey Middle School (840 East 14th Ave.) at 12:40
p.m. in the auditorium on Monday, February 4.
"The Lost Boys visit will give children the opportunity to
view history in action," said Adolescent Life Skills Teacher
Patrice Ejuwa. "It is our hope that their story will help students
to understand the importance of goals and determination and how
education helps us achieve our deepest desires."
Moderated by sixth-grader Janet Mathews, the discussion will lend
itself to classroom writing activities that could find their way
into Whose Magazine.
