District-Wide
Planning Day Friday, January 11
(Except For Schools On Continuous Year Calendar)
Denver Public Schools' Early Education Department will hold its
second annual winter conference entitled, "Early Footprints
on Learning," Thursday, January 10, 2002 at the University
of Colorado at Denver. The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. in the North Classroom on the UCD campus.
The conference means there will be no classes for kindergarten or
early childhood education students Thursday, January 10.
Friday, January 11, is also a district-wide planning day for teachers.
All schools will be closed for students except those that use the
continuous year calendar (Bryant-Webster, Cheltenham, Colfax, Columbian,
Del Pueblo, Eagleton, Ford, Harrington, Maxwell, McGlone, Smedley,
Valdez, and Wyman elementary schools) and Mitchell Elementary School
(which uses a unique extended year calendar).
The keynote speaker Thursday at the "Early Footprints"
conference will be Superintendent Jerry Wartgow. Presentations will
include information on literacy in the early years, bilingual storytelling,
identification of abuse and neglect, science instruction, mathematics
for early years and multicultural activities for the classroom.
The event is designed to support kindergarten and early childhood
education teachers and paraprofessionals, including community site
personnel, who provide care and education to three-, four-, and
five-year-olds. In addition, UCD students studying early education
are invited to participate in this worthwhile conference.
