Lake Middle School Breaks Ground On New Addition To Help Support A New Technology Focused Computer Program

Lake Middle School will hold a ground breaking to mark the "official" start of construction for an eight-classroom addition. The ceremony will be held at Lake Middle School (1820 Lowell Boulevard) on Friday, February 1 at 9:00 a.m.

The ceremony will be held within the construction zone. The ceremony may be moved indoors if the weather is poor. Please come celebrate this joyous occasion with Lake Middle School and DPS. The Master of Ceremonies will be Principal Tom Bauman.

The construction will include 16,000 square feet in a new two story addition, on-site parking for 34 cars, relocation of 3 basketball courts, 4 volleyball courts, a new fire alarm system for the addition and the existing building and flooring replacement in two classrooms.

The new school wing will provide six general classrooms, a career-exploration area, and a flexible technology center that can be used as a multi-purpose/presentation room. This includes the necessary physical and technological support to house a technology-focused (computers) program.

The new project will serve eighth-grade students in a special program that will provide ninth-grade credits (The "Eight-Plus Plan"). The whole addition will be air-conditioned.

The project, which will cost $2,397,000, is expected to last seven months and will be ready to occupy by next school year (2002/2003).
