The Stapleton Program Design Advisory
Committee (PDAC) wants your ideas for the name of the first elementary
school at the old airport. The school is scheduled to open in August
2003.
The following guidelines apply to elementary schools:
- Schools are not named for a person who is living (but this is
not a mandatory requirement).
- Elementary and middle schools shall be named for areas or communities
in Denver or for people known for achievements in education, science,
the humanities or other appropriate fields.
- Names of persons used shall have stood the test of time as to
their importance and worthiness of respect.
Some names suggested at various times that have relevance for northeast
Denver include Rachel Noel, Vickie Buckley, Bruce Randolph, Omar
Blair, Federico Pena, Hiawatha Davis, and Rosa Parks.
Please take the time to suggest a name. Briefly note why you are
recommending the name. The PDAC will prioritize the list and submit
the top three names to the Superintendent and the Board of Education
for approval. The deadline for submissions is mid-February 2002.
Please include your name, address, telephone numbers, and e-mail
address if you have one. Please send suggestions to Brian Weber
at The Stapleton Foundation (bweber@stapletoncorp.com), telephone:
303-393-7700, ext. 296 or Allen Balczarek, Denver Public Schools,
Allen_Balczarek@dpsk12.org, telephone: 720-423-3640. You may mail
your suggestion to: Brian Weber, Stapleton Foundation, 3401 Quebec
St. Suite 8100, Denver, CO, 80207.
