Lincoln Elementary School will host
a Community Forum on Thursday, January 24 to discuss the idea of
starting a Primary Montessori School.
Lincoln Elementary School parents and members of the community are
all invited to the forum, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Lincoln Elementary
is located at 710 S. Pennsylvania Street in the west Washington
Park neighborhood.
"We know that parents want options and we know that the Montessori
concept yields very strong results with student achievement,"
said Lincoln Elementary School principal Daphne Hunter. "Our
school has a strong core program but we want to see if there is
a better way to meet the needs of parents and students. This forum
is a chance to begin the conversation about whether Montessori makes
sense for our community."
The proposed Montessori program would begin with a Lower Primary
program. Depending on the ages of potential students, the school
would either start with first grade (potentially receiving students
from the Washington Park Montessori Pre-School and other Montessori
schools). If enough young students are interested, Lincoln would
explore starting a program with three- and four-year-olds. Current
multi-age programs at Lincoln would continue.
Denver Public Schools is currently home to two public Montessori
schools Denison Montessori (1821 S. Yates St.) is a district-wide
magnet and Sandoval Academy (3655 Wyandot St.) offers the Montessori
approach alongside dual-language (Spanish and English) instruction.
Sandoval is a regional magnet program for northwest Denver.
