Musicians from two DPS Schools - Denver
School of the Arts and East High School - will perform Thursday
and Friday, January 24 and 25, at the Colorado Music Educators Associations
(CMEA) 59th Annual Clinic/Conference in Colorado Springs. Musicians
are selected to perform on an invitation-only basis.
The East High School Angelaires, under the direction of William
Taylor, will perform for the educators on Friday.
Mariel Roberts, a ninth grade student at Denver School of the Arts
(DSA), will perform the Colorado Chapter of the American String
Teachers Associations Winners Recital on Friday afternoon.
A cellist, she will play Hungarian Rhapsody by David
Popper as her solo presentation. Following the recital, the DSA
String Quartet, under the direction of Frank Fyock, will perform
as the special guests of the CMEA. The quartet, composed of Cosima
Luther, first violin; Rachel Massey, second violin; Mackinzie Roberts,
viola; and Mariel Roberts, cello, will perform Beethovens
String Quartet Opus 59, No. 1, Shostakovichs String Quartet
No. 8, and Carols Gardels Tango: Por una Cabeza.
CMEA represents elementary school through university-level music
educators from throughout Colorado. The annual clinic/conference
takes place from Thursday, Jan. 24, through Saturday, Jan. 26, at
the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs.
