Deadline Is February 1, 2002
Denver Teachers' Awards is now encouraging
nominations for the 2001-2002 Distinguished Teacher Awards. The
deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, February 1, 2002.
Nomination books should be delivered to the Welcome Center at the
Denver Public Schools Administration Building at 900 Grant Street,
Denver, Colorado.
Nomination books are judged and scored by a committee of college
professors. Final selections are based on the results of the committee's
scores. The Denver Teachers' Awards Board of Directors does not
do any judging. The Board, however, tries to ensure elementary,
middle school and high school teachers are all represented in the
final selection. The quality of content of the nomination books
is the basis for scoring, not the appearance of the book.
To be considered for the Distinguished Teacher Award, a teacher
must be nominated on the official nomination form, available on
the district's web site (www.denver.k12.co.us.)
Principals, school staff members, parents, students and citizens
may nominate teachers. The nomination form is to be accompanied
by letters and documents supportive of teaching excellence and should
be put together in a nomination notebook of your own design.
Teachers nominated must have taught five years or more in the District
prior to this year and must not have won this award before. A training
session for those who wish to learn more about putting together
a "winning" nomination book will be held at a later date,
with more information to follow. Nine teachers will be chosen to
receive the Distinguished Teacher Award at the annual banquet in
May.
Denver Teachers' Awards will also be presenting two Helen Phelps
Awards honoring an individual and a company for their outstanding
volunteer contributions to the Denver Public Schools. Simple nomination
letters should be sent to Mr. Carl Cerveny, 3425 Moore Street, Wheatridge,
Colorado 80033. This award will also be presented during the May
banquet.
Denver Teachers' Awards feels that this program of recognizing outstanding
teachers and volunteers offers all citizens the opportunity honor
the tremendous contributions to excellence in education. Denver
Teachers' Awards sees this program as a show of support and admiration
for our public school teachers.
