The Manual Educational Complex (1700
East 28th Ave.) is experiencing a new era of music and would like
to celebrate it with the community on Tuesday, December 11th. Just
two years ago, there were seven members in the band. Today, nearly
40 teenagers are dedicated to the program.
"Having their own program has really given these students ownership
and self esteem," said Band Director Keith Harms. "This
music program has been challenging for these students since many
did not have the opportunity to learn an instrument at a younger
age."
A school-wide art show will kick off the event at 6:30 p.m. The
concert follows at 7:00 p.m. Guests should follow the luminarias
which will light the way to the galleria entrance on the south side
of the complex.
"I see a lot of positive changes and kids feeling good about
what they are doing," adds Harms. "They have direction
and are proud of what they do."
The performance will include the beginning band, a guest conductor,
a classical guitar and flamenco performance, as well as the Manual
Complex concert band.
