Members Elaine Gantz Berman And Les Woodward Thursday, November 15
Agendas For Legislative Meeting And Work Session
A series of Board of Education meetings Thursday, November 15 will be
highlighted with the swearing-in ceremony for two new members, Kevin Patterson
and Michelle Moss. Patterson was elected to represent District 4 in northeast
Denver; Moss to represent District 2 in southwest Denver.
Also to be sworn in are Elaine Gantz Berman (District 3 in east-central
Denver) and Les Woodward (who represents the district at-large). Both
Berman and Woodward were re-elected.
All four will be sworn into new four-year terms.
The swearing-in will occur during a special 5:00 p.m. legislative meeting
in the first floor Board Room at the administration building, 900 Grant
Street. Following the ceremony, the Board will elect its officers - president,
vice-president, secretary, and treasurer.
The only other listed agenda item for the 5:00 p.m. session is to receive
recommendations from the District School Improvement Accountability Council
regarding six pending charter school applications.
The Board will begin the day with a 3:30 p.m. reception for the two new
members and to say thanks to two outgoing members, Sharon Macdonald and
Bennie Milliner. The reception will be held in the lobby of the administration
building.
At 4:00 p.m., the current Board of Education will hold its final regular
legislative meeting in the first floor Board Room to consider:
- A salary increase and related agreements with the Denver Association
of Educational Office Professionals (DAEOP).
- Final approval of a new policy that would declare "all types
of bullying" as "unacceptable" and spells out disciplinary
action. The proposed policy also calls for the Superintendent to develop
a comprehensive program to address bullying at all grade levels.
- A proposed policy, on first reading, that would change the structure
of Board of Education meetings. Under the proposed policy, the Board
would meet on the first and third Thursday of each month for its regular
business meetings. (The Board has only been taking official action once
each month.) Also, the public hearing would be held on the first Thursday
of each month as part of the regular meeting at 7:00 p.m.
The Board has also scheduled a 6:00 p.m. work session (Room 702) to discuss:
- Pupil Membership Review (Faculty Adjustments)
- Joint Salary Task Force
- Superintendent's Update
- Committee Assignments
- CDM Review - Teacher Contracts
- Update of Appointments to Task Force on Teacher Compensation
- Committee Assignments
