Students Donate Thousands Of Coins To The Red Cross Through "Pennies For Peace" Spare Change Drive

Denver Public Schools children have been collecting money to support the American Red Cross in their efforts to help families impacted by the recent tragedies in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania. Loomis Fargo has volunteered to pick-up water bottles donated by Deep Rock that were used to collect change at 63 schools and offices throughout the district.

The armored truck will make its last stop at Morey Middle School (840 E. 14th Ave.) at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5th. Members of the Morey Student Council rallied the students to collect about $500 for Pennies for Peace. The truck will then deliver the donations to Young Americans Bank (311 Steele St.) arriving at approximately 1:30 p.m. where volunteer staff will immediately begin counting.

The DPS Department of Community Education spearheaded the drive. "This has been a great way for the students to express their feelings and offer help to families who are hurting," said Catherine Barnes, Community Education. "Even kids who don't have very much of their own have emptied their piggy banks for kids who live across the country. It's very touching to see."
