On Wednesday, October 31st, the Montbello community will break ground on the new Gateway Elementary School (16000 E. Maxwell) at a ceremony to be held at 9:30 a.m. The school will be located across from Parkfield Lake and adjacent to 35 acres of park space. The school will have 25 classrooms including Kindergarten, ECE, space for special needs children, two softball fields, and one soccer field. Gateway is scheduled to open in Fall of 2002. The money for the approximately $7.8 million dollar construction project came from the $305 million dollar bond approved by voters in 1998.
