Denver Public Schools Outdoor Education Program Expands Main Lodge

A trip to the mountains will get even better for Denver Public Schools children participating in the district's Balarat Outdoor Education Program. On Wednesday, October 17th, the Balarat Outdoor Education Center will hold a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. to dedicate the remodel of Elk Lodge. The lodge is located just 14 miles northwest of Boulder, up Lefthand and James Canyons, one mile above Jamestown.

The Balarat addition includes an extended main room, a remodeled kitchen, new carpeting, a handicapped entrance, and two mudrooms. The lodge is used as a classroom and dining area for full-day, overnight, and weekend excursions.

The Balarat Outdoor Education Center is a 700 acre, district owned facility. Balarat activities encompass three different areas: environmental experience, conservation learning, and outdoor education.
