An armored truck packed with money
visited Morey Middle School, last week, to conclude the Pennies
for Peace Spare Change Drive at Denver Public Schools. Now, the
totals are in thanks to Young Americans Bank which offered to count
the change. The total amount collected from more than 60 DPS schools
and offices was $5,437.14.
Pennies for Peace was coordinated by the DPS Department of Community
Education, which includes Kaleidoscope Corner Child Care, Denver
Community School, and the Beacon Neighborhood Center and 21st Century
Community Learning Center programs.
Here is the amount raised at each of the top sixteen collection

The funds will support the American Red Cross in their efforts to
help families who were impacted by the September 11 tragedies.
Special thanks to Deep Rock Water for providing the blue collection
containers, Loomis Fargo for transporting the money, and staff at
Young Americans Bank for spending four hours counting all the change
including 11,000 pennies.
