High
School Students To "Tie the Knot" For Civil Law Lesson
The Political Science/Criminal
Justice class at the Fred N. Thomas Career Education Center will hold a
mock wedding TODAY, September 14th, at 12:15 p.m. for a lesson on civil
law. The school is located at 2650 Eliot St.
Juniors and Seniors will be given a life scenario booklet which describes
their life circumstances such as: their health; number of children; items
they own; and jobs they have.
"It's like 'this is your life'," said CEC Community Liaison, Merrillee
Thomas. "Kids need life skills not just street smarts. They need to
make wise decisions and this civil law unit will help them see how their
decisions affects others, especially children."
The wedding couple will get married, have a child, get divorced, and face
the civil ramifications that divorce brings. They will fill out IRS forms,
child support forms, and battle over child custody.
