Ashley Elementary School
Awarded For High Tech Classrooms
Four educators at Ashley Elementary School
have won 2nd place in the AT&T Broadband's Emerging Technology Awards
for Educators program. This program encourages teachers and administrators
to develop new classroom applications for video and Internet technology.
Ashley was recognized for developing a cross-disciplinary curriculum around
the construction of Stapleton Redevelopment. Students will use reading,
math, social studies, history, science and technology skills to chart the
evolution of the new neighborhood via webcams placed throughout the construction
site.
"This is a very exciting program for us and it is one of the few times
students can see a community built from the ground up," said Team Leader,
Pat White. "With the help of AT&T we will be able to document it,
explore it and analyze it."
AT&T will present the award on August 31st, at 10:00 a.m. at the school
(1914 Syracuse Street). The winners in the program receive a $2000 cash
grant to fund their project and a digital video camera.
The team involved in the project consisted of Ashley Principal, Wanda Lydia,
and teachers Pat White, Holly Colburn, and LuAnn Tallman.
Thomas Jefferson High School won 1st place at the competition and will be
presented their award on September 17th.
