Storyteller Training Scheduled For "Spellbinders" Volunteers

Spellbinders, a national organization that provides volunteer training for senior citizens and non-working adults in the art of oral storytelling, has announced four training sessions for volunteers. The training sessions begin in early September.

The mission of Spellbinders is to create connections between generations through the art of storytelling in order to pass on the wisdom, values, humor, and sense of community embodied in stories of all cultures and all times.

Spellbinders volunteers tell stories of their choice from folktales to personal experiences, emphasizing stories that reflect the Spellbinders mission. Since 1989, Spellbinders volunteers have shared their stories with thousands of Denver Public Schools students, growing from 6 members in 1989 to over 60 currently.

In September, the organization will hold a fall orientation and training for all new storytellers. This four-day training will be held at the Concord Career Institute Building at 770 Grant Street from 10:00-12:30 pm on the following dates:

Tuesday, September 4, 2001
Friday, September 7, 2001
Tuesday, September 11, 2001
Friday, September 14, 2001

Volunteers must attend all four days of training. The cost is $25; some scholarships are available. Spread the gift of storytelling in the Denver Public Schools. Volunteer today.
