Northwest Area Celebrates
Academia Ana Marie Sandoval Grand Opening
This Saturday, August 18th, from 11:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Northwest Area will celebrate the opening of Denver
Public Schools first Dual Language-Montessori school, Academia Ana
Marie Sandoval.
The school opens its doors to three-, four- and five-year olds on Monday,
August 20th. Students will receive instruction in English and Spanish in
a Montessori setting. One grade will be added each year until the school
reaches full capacity.
The festivities Saturday include the following:
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.- Picnic, guided tours, and entertainment
including: Aztec Dancers (11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the central courtyard);
storytellers (11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the atrium) and mariachis (11:30
a.m. - 1:00 p.m., atrium)
1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. - Welcome (Auditorium) Jo Ann Trujillo Hays,
Principal; Honoring Ana Marie Sandoval: Lucia Guzman, DPS School Board Member;
Remembering Ellen Torres: Marty Roberts; Recognition of Parents and Community:
Patrick Ridgeway, Program Design Advisory Committee (PDAC) Member; Recognition
of Padres Unidos: Mary Salazar, PDAC Chairperson
1:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. - Entertainment (in the auditorium): Mexican
Dancers and
Irish Dancers
Please note: An official dedication ceremony is scheduled for August 31st.
