Teacher Wins Award For Excellent
Work With Students With Disabilities
July 27, 2001
The Colorado Developmental Disabilities Planning Council awarded Hill
Middle School's Ruth Mathers with the Dan B. Davidson Excellence in Inclusion
Award.
"Mathers is a model for the use of innovative strategies for educating
hearing impaired students in the classroom," said Don Roy, Principal
at Hill Middle School.
"The collaborative teaching efforts of Ms. Mathers and other Hill
Middle School staff exemplify the Denver Public Schools belief that inclusive
practices are valued and can positively impact students academic success,"
added Bev Harris, Special Education Manager.
The Colorado Developmental Disabilities Planning Council honors individuals
that strive to include persons with disabilities in their schools, places
of employment, and community as contributing and welcome members of society.
The award was presented to Mathers at a reception earlier this week.
