McGlone Elementary Back-To-School Night Is Thursday, July 26; "Continuous Calendar" Schools Prepare For School Year Start July 30

McGlone Elementary School in Montbello will hold its annual barbeque and back-to-school gathering Thursday, July 26.

The event will allow students and parents a chance to visit classrooms and meet teachers prior to the new school year, which begins Monday, July 30 for McGlone and 12 other schools that use the Continuous Year Calendar in Denver Public Schools.

"I think the switch to Continuous Year Calendar is going to be positive for our community," said McGlone principal Barbara Cooper. "Our parents were all for it."

The McGlone event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 7:00 p.m. McGlone Elementary School is located at 4500 Crown Boulevard in Montebello.

The Continuous Year Calendar shortens the long summer vacation to about six weeks but includes two-week vacations in October and three-week winter and spring vacations.

The other schools that will use the Continuous Year Calendar during the 2001-2002 school year are Bryant-Webster, Cheltenham, Colfax, Columbian, Del Pueblo, Eagleton, Ford, Harrington, Maxwell, Smedley, Valdez, and Wyman elementary schools.

McGlone this year will also introduce school uniforms - black pants or skirts with yellow or white shirts or blouses.
