Puzzle Pieces To Fit Perfectly
For Playground Coming To Kaiser
June 1, 2001
Working under the philosophy that it takes a community to raise a child,
Kaiser Elementary, alongside residents of the Bowmar Heights Community,
have teamed together with public and private funds to renovate its playground.
Kaiser will break ground on the new playground Friday, June 1. The ceremony
will be held at the school, located at 4500 South Quitman, beginning at
9:10 a.m.
The new playground/"Learning Landscape" will feature nine puzzle
pieces strategically located throughout the playground. Each puzzle piece
will represent one of three age appropriate play areas. (These areas are
designed to accommodate all students to include children with special
needs).
"With this playground, we will create an outdoor learning center
that will extend the educational benefits to all students regardless of
their age, interest or physical challenges," said Kaiser principal
Angela Willhite.
Phase one of the renovation will include development of Early Childhood,
Primary and Intermediate playgrounds, and an asphalt game area. This playground
will allow all children the opportunity to participate in cooperative
play.
Additional phases are planned to develop an amphitheater, a running track,
a multipurpose grass area and an educational garden.
Members of the Denver Board of Education, district officials, representative
from the Office of The Lieutenant Governor, Councilman Ted Hackworth,
members of UCD and The Denver Broncos Charities Foundation are all expected
to attend the ceremonial start of construction as supporters to the project.
Phase One of this project is scheduled to begin in June 2001 and be plete
by October 2001.
In a continuing effort to raise funds for Kaiser Elementary School's "Learning
Landscape" project, Kaiser Elementary, along with Lt. Governor Joe
Rogers, will host the Kaiser Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 29,
2001.
