Target Volunteers Aim To
Give Back to the Community, Focus on Playground Build At Remington Elementary
School
June 11, 2001
In an effort to give back to the community, nearly 150 metro-Denver Target
Stores and Mervyn's volunteers, along with students and community members
from the Sunnyside neighborhood, will renovate the playgrounds at Remington
Elementary School.
The one-day renovation and build will take place on Tuesday, June 12 beginning
at 8:00 a.m. Remington is located at 4735 Pecos Street.
The playground volunteers will build a new structure, paint existing equipment
and blacktop areas, install two new basketball backboards and add perimeter
fencing.
"The renovation will provide a safe environment for all our students,
including meeting the needs of our four-year olds in Early Childhood Education
and our students with special needs," said Principal Suzanne Cordova.
The playground equipment is being provided by Target, Inc. through a partnership
with Kaboom!, a national non-profit organization that brings together
individuals, communities and businesses to provide children with fun,
safe and accessible playgrounds.
Kaboom! has built over 260 playgrounds since 1995, and 23 of those with
Target. Remington will be number 24, and the second playground from this
partnership in the metro-Denver area.
By the end of this calendar year, DPS will have renovated 14 playgrounds
throughout the district since the year 2000.
