Germany's Nobitz Youth Band
Will Perform At Morey April 12
April 6, 2001
Leipzig, Germany and Denver, Colorado will share their musical talents
and spirit Thursday, April 12 when the Nobitz Youth Band plays two recitals
and performs together with the Morey Middle School Advanced Band.
The unique visit to Colorado by the band grew out of a chance meeting
two years ago in Budapest, Hungary when the mother of a Morey Middle School
teacher and the director of the Nobitz Youth Band happened to meet. The
idea for a band exchange blossomed when the Colorado Youth Symphony jumped
at the opportunity serve as host. The Colorado Youth Symphony will head
to Nobitz in 2002.
Beginning the week of April 9, the Nobitz Youth Band will be performing
throughout Denver, including stops at Ascension Lutheran Church, the Lamont
School of Music, and the Edelweiss Club in Commerce City. The performance
Tuesday, April 10 (6:30 p.m.) is for the "Friendship Force,"
a group that promotes swapping accomodations with people from other countires.
On Thursday (April 12), the Nobitz band will spend the better part of
the day at Morey, including two back-to-back recitals at Morey beginning
at 9:45 a.m. The Morey and Nobitz bands will also perform together as
a group for a few songs. The morning will end with a pizza lunch for the
students.
"The visit will provide a tremendous opportunity for both bands to
share their talents and their love for music," said Morey instrumental
music teacher Lorrie Baum. "This is a terrific time for sharing cultures
and I know the Morey students will enjoy seeing and hearing such a high-caliber
band perform."
The Nobitz Youth Band - whose home is Nobitz, Germany, a town of about
50,000 just outside Leipzig - includes 40 students who play brass, woodwind
and percussion instruments. The band has traveled throughout Europe, performing
and participating in competitions.
