Denver's East High School
Students Reach Second in the Nation in Civics Competition
April 25, 2001
A 24 student team from East High School placed second in the nation at
the 14th annual competition called "We the People...The Citizen and
the Constitution." The team flew to Washington D.C., where they impressed
officials with the Center for Civic Education, which puts on the contest.
The students are judged and assigned points for the answers they give
to questions related to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The panel
of Judges included U.S. Court Judges, journalists, government leaders,
attorneys, and constitutional experts.
The East High School team has always ranked high in its scores taking
home the national title in 1991.
