"2001 - A School Odyssey"
Is Theme Of This Year's Northwest Coalition Schools Fair Saturday, April
28
April 24, 2001
The NW Coalition 4 Better Schools will celebrate academic achievement
in North Denver Public Schools at the 14th Annual NW Coalition Schools
Fair.
The event will be held Saturday, April 28, at North High School (2960
N. Speer Blvd.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year's theme is cleverly titled:
"2001 - A School Odyssey."
Thousands usually attend this community event, featuring each school's
best programs in 'Brag Booths', student talents in performances on stage,
a juried art show, choirs, plays, dancing groups, an essay contest, science
exhibits, the "Battle Of the Books" for elementary school authors,
and the NW Chess Challenge. The day is a showcase for the area's unbounded
talent.
Community support for student success will be featured at an inspiring
awards breakfast for "Northwest Notables" and "Vikings
of Excellence." Special "Environmental Pride" awards for
individual schools and the "Distinguished Teacher" award will
also be given out, along with one for "Friendliest School."
The winner of the essay contest scholarship will arrive by Denver Police
Department helicopter.
This celebration is unique in Denver and focuses on student potential.
The Denver Foundation, The Denver Police Department, Northwest Optimists,
Denver Public Schools, The North Denver Tribune, and The Rose Community
Fund support the annual event.
