Lake Middle School Gym Turns
into Mission Site for Student's Challenger E-Missions Project
April 23, 2001
"This is one of the most exciting, technology-driven, standards-based,
interdisciplinary programs I have seen in 15 years of education,"
says Candy Stocker, Educational Technology Specialist. Students will apply
their knowledge in science, math, and communication to analyze a virtual
natural disaster from space.
All the data is authentic and fed to the students via an Internet live
connection with Challenger Mission Control where students will be able
to work with peers and experts at NASA.
The first set of missions lifts off at Lake Middle School, 1820 Lowell
Blvd., from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., on April
23, 24, 25, and 26. On mission day, the auxiliary gym will be turned into
a mission site, complete with a communications center, web cameras (that
will be simultaneously broadcasting), television feedback, tube lights,
and space uniforms. The students are doing all the work themselves. You
can visit the live cams at: dpslake.org/lakeweb/nasa.html
