Superintendent Candidates to Tour Schools, Meet Public

April 12, 2001

The three candidates for the superintendent vacancy in Denver Public Schools will tour three schools and be quizzed during an evening community forum during day-long visits next week.

The candidate visits are April 16, 17, and 18 (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday).

Each visit will include a tour of the school and informal visits with teachers, staff, and principal. There will be press availability in the afternoon and a public community forum in the evening.

The 90-minute forum will be broadcast on Denver cable station Channel 22. Those in attendance will have time to ask questions of the candidate and viewers at home will have the ability to ask questions via telephone, fax or e-mail.

The candidates' schedules follow:

Monday April 16th with Dr. Libia Gil

  • 10:30 - 11:15 Visit Denver School of the Arts, 150 S. Pearl St.
  • 1:30 - 2:00 Press Availability @ Lincoln High School, 2285 S. Federal Blvd.

  • 6:30 - 8:00 Ch 22 session in 1st Floor Board Room, 900 Grant St.

Tuesday, April 17TH with Jim Polsfut

  • 10:30 - 11:15 Visit G.W. High School, 655 S. Monaco St.
  • 1:30 - 2:00 Press Availability @ Lake Middle School, 1820 Lowell Blvd.

Wednesday, April 18th with Jerry Wartgow

Each candidate will also meet privately with the Board of Education twice during the day. The candidates will meet with the Board over the dinner hour and following the community forums.
