Hilltop Terminal Bus Lot Renovations Begin Next Week

Improvements to the Denver Public Schools Hilltop Terminal begin next week and, while work is being done, buses will temporarily park in a lot located near West 13th Ave. and Decatur Street in northwest Denver.

The temporary parking lot is two blocks north of Fairview Elementary School, near Mile High Stadium and adjacent to a Public Service Company plant.

Guy Champlin, Executive Director of Transportation and Support Services, said the move is needed for work to finish on time at Hilltop (West 8th Ave. and Federal Blvd.) for the August 20 opening of the 2001-2002 school year. Buses will use Zuni Street as the primary access to the temporary lot.

At Hilltop, the lot will be expanded and then leveled to maximize the number of spaces available for parking buses. Ten large underground fuel tanks will be removed and double-walled to improve the bus re-fueling system. Block heaters will be installed to decrease the amount of warm-up time for engines in the winter. The appearance of the lot will also be greatly improved through fencing, lighting and a new entranceway.
