DSA'S Award-Winning Orchestra Releases Second CD
November 14, 2000
The Denver School of the Arts Orchestra has released its second compact disc. Titled "Introspection," it features the works of Mozart, Telemann, Dvorak, Grieg and Marcello performed by the school's award-winning 41-piece orchestra, student soloists and ensembles.
Proceeds from CD sales will help fund the orchestra's April 2001 trip to Montreal, Canada, where students will perform, attend master classes at the University of Montreal, and visit the Montreal Symphony, directed by acclaimed conductor Charles Dutoit.
The CDs are available for $20 each, plus $3.00 for shipping and handling, by contacting Mary Olsen at (303) 733-1543. The orchestra released its first CD, "First Impressions," in February 2000.
Funding for the Montreal trip also will come from the DSA Orchestra's "Strings Away" Concert and silent auction scheduled for February 11 at the Oriental Theater in Northwest Denver.
Last Spring, the orchestra traveled to Chicago and participated in master classes at Northwestern University. The orchestra was one of only four performing groups to be awarded a gold medal at the Mid-West Festival of Music. This year, the orchestra is among a select few groups chosen to perform at the Colorado Music Educators Association's (CMEA) Annual Clinic/Conference in Colorado Springs in January 2001.
The Denver School of the Arts Orchestra was created in 1992 to provide talented young musicians from throughout metro Denver with the opportunity for artistic growth in a challenging orchestra environment. The Denver School of the Arts is a Denver Public Schools magnet school serving sixth- through twelfth-grade. It was founded in 1991.
