Board To Vote On School Calendar Change

October 17, 2000

Board Of Education To Vote On Whether To Change School Year Calendar Thursday, October 19

The Denver Board of Education will decide whether to begin the 2001-2002 school year three weeks earlier at its Legislative session, Thursday, October 19. The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. at 900 Grant St. in the First Floor Board Room.

Under the proposal, school would start on August 20 and end the Friday before Memorial Day. The earlier start is designed to allow more instruction time before the CSAP (Colorado Student Assessment Program) exams are given in February. The earlier start would bring DPS in line with other school district start dates.

Other agenda items include:

  • Consolidation of middle school Highly Gifted program
  • A resolution supporting Amendment 1A
  • School and district guidelines for Highly Gifted programs
  • New salary schedule for technology positions
  • Amended timeline for the charter school application process

Prior to the Legislative meeting, a work session will be held at 4 p.m. in room 706. A discussion with school principals about concerns over pay for performance is scheduled.
