Five Schools To Host Parent Discussions Saturday, October 28
October 4, 2000
Parents across Denver Public Schools are invited to attend one of five meetings on Saturday, October 28 to exchange information and learn about improving student achievement.
The meetings, hosted by the Department of Community Relations, will include discussions about the district's Student Achievement Plan, School Improvement Plans, and the statewide Colorado Assessment Program (CSAP). Reforms launched under Senate Bill 186 including the school grades to be issued by the state next summer will also be discussed.
Topics also include teacher-student ratios, discipline, leadership, and Collaborative Decision-Making teams.
"We are hosting these meetings in an effort to draw parents into the conversation about school improvement and to learn from each other about what steps can be taken to enhance achievement for all students", said Aaron Gray, Director of Community Relations. Certainly parents are a key element in the equation that's needed to boost student performance. We want to make sure parents have a chance to find out what is happening in public schools and also to come together to discuss ways they can assist.
The meetings will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at five locations:
- Merrill Middle School, 1551 S. Monroe Street
- Rishel Middle School, 451 S. Tejon Street
- Maxwell Elementary School, 14390 E. Bolling Dr.
- North High School, 2960 N. Speer Blvd.
- East High School, 1545 Detroit Street.
All interested DPS parents and community members are invited to attend. For more information, please call Community Relations at 720-423-3577.
