Montbello Academic Pep Rally Is Thursday, October 5
October 3, 2000
Hoping to excite students and parents about academics, Montbello High School will host an Academic Pep Rally Thursday, October 5.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Montbello gymnasium. Students and parents from all eight schools in the Montbello/Green Valley Ranch area - elementary, middle and high - are invited.
"The idea is to trumpet our successes and show parents that our students can be even more successful," said Montbello assistant principal Betty Emerson. "We often have pep rallies for athletic challenges. We want to devote the same energy to academic achievement. We want to excite people about learning."
Those scheduled to address the rally include Board of Education Vice President Bennie Milliner; Director of Community Relations Aaron Gray; Oscar Joseph, a University of Colorado at Denver professor and a Montbello High School alumnus; and Larry Romero, executive director of the Latin American Educational Foundation.
At the rally, parents will be asked to sign a parent pledge acknowledging that parents are responsible for their children's well-being and educational welfare.
"The Academic Pep Rally is going to be a high-energy event," said Montbello teacher Joyce Hurd. "The band will play, children will sing and people will cheer."
Montbello High School is located at 5000 Crown Blvd. For more information, call the school at 303-375-5700.
