Fireworks To Celebrate All-City Stadium Renovation

September 20, 2000

A ceremony and fireworks display to celebrate $2.2 million in renovations at All-City Stadium is Thursday, September 21. The event begins at 3:30 p.m. at All-City Field, 1450 S. Franklin St. (directly south of South High School).

Members of the Denver Board of Education, district officials and students from all Denver high schools are expected to join in celebrating the renovations.

Students from each high school, dressed in their school's colors, will gather on the field for a release of balloons.

The students will remain on the field for the ceremonial ribbon cutting. Following a spectacular display of fireworks, Manual High School and North High School will line up to play the first game on the new field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:11 p.m.

The new playing field is one of the finest in the country, said DPS Athletics Director Leslie Moore. "Our field is one of only two west of the Mississippi," she said. Composed of a synthetic grass called Astro-Play, the field requires very little maintenance, is softer than Astroturf and much safer. "It cuts way down on knee injuries and is non-abrasive," Moore said.

In addition to the new playing field for football, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey, improvements include a new running track, new concessions area, new scoreboard and improved access for physically disabled individuals. The stadium also has a fresh coat of paint.
