GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW SOUTHWEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IS FRIDAY, JUNE 9
June 6, 2000
A groundbreaking ceremony for a new school in southwest Denver's Grant Ranch is Friday, June 9, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the project site, 5400 S. Jay Circle.
Members of the Denver Board of Education, district officials and neighborhood leaders are all expected to join in marking the start of construction on the new elementary school, which will serve students in ECE (early childhood education) and kindergarten through eighth grade.
Scheduled to open for the 2001-2002 school year, the new school is one of nine being built with proceeds from the $305 million bond, approved by voters in 1998.
Based on recommendations from the school's Program Design Advisory Committee (PDAC), the school will offer a traditional education emphasizing literacy as well as core subjects of reading, writing, math, social studies and science. The school will also emphasize a variety of specialty subjects including technology, physical education, vocal music, foreign language, library media, art and instrumental music.
