WEST HIGH SCHOOL TELEPHONE SYSTEM DAMAGED

May 31, 2000

A power surge has crippled the telephone system at West High School (951 Elati St.).

DPS telecommunications experts are working on the repairs, which are expected to be complete Thursday, June 1.

The power surge sometime early this morning damaged the PBX (private branch exchange) switchboard in the building, said Don Arnst, network technician for DPS telecommunications. Parts are being brought in from Texas to replace the broken systems control cards for the switchboard.

Arnst said West High School principal Irene Jordan and other staff have been provided cellular phones to use while repairs are under way. Parents who need to contact their children in an emergency will need to come to the building. When it's working, the telephone number at West High School is 303-620-5300.
